Sabbatarians incorrectly teach that the Royal law of James 2:8-12 is the Ten Commandment law.

James 2:8-12 "If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law, according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not commit murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak and so act, as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty."

1. A simple reading of the passage will show that the "Royal law" is not one of the ten commandments, but a commandment from what Adventists call the "ceremonial law" (in the book, not on stone).
2. Further, James is comparing the abolished Old Testament law (Royal law) with the New Law: The law of liberty! He is saying, "under the Old Testament law, (now abolished) we understood that we must keep every point... so to with the new Testament law".

1. The Royal law refers to what Sabbatarians call the ceremonial law of Moses.
2. Guilty of the "whole law" refers to far more than just the ten commandments, but the entire Law of Moses!
3. James is saying in other words, "You know what it was like under the Old Covenant "Royal law" that you must keep it all. Well the same thing applies to the New Covenant "Law of Liberty". Notice: So act and so speak... indicates a comparison between two things.

C. Only Sabbatarians could call the Old covenant and Ten commandments as a Law of liberty, every other reference in the New Testament to it is OPPOSITE to the concept of LIBERTY: "yoke no one is able to bear" or "yoke of slavery":

1. "Now therefore why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? Acts 15:9
2. "It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." Gal 5:1
