Question 3:

Will Jesus Prune Christians?

John 15:5-6 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch, and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned."

Why did Jesus say we might be thrown away and cast into the hell?

We will be cast in the fire of Hell if we do not abide in Jesus

Thrown away and cast into the fire does not mean Hell

Jesus said:

John 15:5-6 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch, and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned."

Do you believe "cast into the fire" is an expression that describes those who go to heaven?

No, now that I look at it again it obviously does not

Yes, this is what I believe

Perhaps they were never saved to begin with and that is why they are cast into the fire!

Now look closely at what Paul said:

Romans 11:19-23 "You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith.

Why were "branches broken off"

They were broken off for lack of faith

Broken off does not mean they were lost!

Paul continues

Romans 11:19-23 Do not be conceited, but fear; for if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will He spare you. Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again."

What do these phrases from the verse mean?

These phrases indicate that Christians can fall away and be cast into Hell

This verse does not apply to Christians
